Want to spend a fun Saturday learning new things?
Are you curious about something you don't learn at school?
Do you want to spend time with children who have the same interests as you?
Discovery Saturdays is an in-school semester-long program one Saturday every month for talented and curious children 5 – 14 years of age. It takes place in Prague since the spring of 2013 and more recently in Ostrava and Hradec Kralove.
Children create their own schedules. They choose the programs and topics that appeal to them so that they can explore, learn, and develop specific skills along with other students with similar interests.
- Would you like to learn how computers think?
- Would you like to discover the many wonders of physics?
- Are you interested in programming LEGO robots in Lab View or in Ozobots?
- Would you like to know how to become a novelist or just how to write creatively in English?
- Would you like to read the hieroglyphs of the ancient Egyptians and learn about the pyramids?
- Would you like to reach for the stars and prepare for a mission to Mars?
- Do you want to learn how to unwind and relax?
- Are you interested in how to support your ideas to convince your audience?
Our programs and topics go above and beyond school curricula.
We offer a variety of topics from the natural sciences, humanities, informatics, and psychology - all of which come with personal development. These are topics that children generally encounter much later in high school or at the university.
While most courses are taught in Czech, several courses for older children are in English. Some courses for the youngest children include English terminology and basic phrases.
Our lecturers are experts in their subjects. They inspire and motivate children in their development. We also engage young college students to become assistants to our lecturers. Some of our assistants have become lecturers themselves.
Schedule for Discovery Saturdays:
- Spring semester (February – June)
- Fall semester (September – January)
- Summer Program (last week in July in Prague)
