AP Capstone is a diploma program of the College Board based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses are designed to complement other AP courses that the AP Capstone student may take.

AP Capstone Diploma

The AP Capstone Diploma is an opportunity to attain an excellent international high school education and to get admitted to the most prestigious universities anywhere in the world.

Unlike the International Baccalaureate (IB), you can obtain your AP Capstone Diploma online with CTM during your high school years. The AP Capstone Diploma is as rigorous and challenging as the IB but is much more flexible and affordable.

To obtain the AP Capstone Diploma you would need to complete:

• four Advanced Placement (AP) exams of your choice for which you can prepare with CTM Online
• AP Seminar and AP Research courses which you can take with CTM, combining online and in-class studies

AP Seminar

In this course students work in a team. They explore various subjects, current topics, assess them from a variety of perspectives, collect and analyze information from diverse sources, learn to develop and to defend their points of view. They work on individual assignments and in a team - prepare individual research reports and team multimedia presentations. The overall aim is to equip students with the competencies to analyze and evaluate information with accuracy and precision in order to craft and communicate evidence-based arguments.

AP Research

In this course students work individually, each on a separate scientific topic, typically building on experience in AP Seminar. Each student chooses to explore an academic topic, problem, or issue of individual interest, designs, plans, and conducts a year-long research based investigation to address a specific research question.

AP Research can be compared to a small dissertation.

AP Exams

Advanced Placement Exams (AP exams) are international subject matter exams set at a curricula level for American college freshman. Organized by the College Board each year in May, AP exams are taken by more than two million students from all over the world. AP exams are recognized by most prestigious universities worldwide.

AP Seminar + AP Research courses, part of the AP Capstone program, are one of the most innovative subjects of the College Board, and also one reason why we chose the AP Capstone program as the international component of our educational program for LEAF Academy.  AP Capstone focuses on the development of key skills: communication, teamwork and critical thinking.  AP Seminar develops these competencies interdisciplinary and in connection with relevant current issues.  Students learn to approach the selected topic from different angles, the result of their work is both individual academic work (essay) and individual and team multimedia presentation.  AP Research, on the other hand, is an individual research project at the university level.  Students build on the competencies acquired in the AP Seminar and choose a topic for research according to their interests.  Throughout the school year, they research the topic, learn to work with scientific literature, design an experiment or survey, write a scientific article and defend it in front of an audience.  Graduates of the AP Capstone program will gain not only skills and knowledge in professional AP subjects that will help them succeed in university studies, but also analytical, team and presentation competencies and experience that every modern employer will appreciate.
