 What are Digital PSAT tests?

Digital PSAT tests are a part of  Digital Suite of Assesment. PSAT are standardized tests of study prerequisites of the College Board - PSAT /NMSQT for the penultimate year of high school, PSAT 10 and PSAT 8/9 for younger children. They help students identify their academic strengths and weaknesses, areas where they need to focus in preparation for SAT and at significantly lower cost than the SAT fee itself. Approximately 3.5 million students take these tests each year. 

Types of PSAT by students’ age:

• PSAT 8/9 for students 14 to 15 years of age
• PSAT 10 for students of 16 years of age
• PSAT / NMSQT for students 16-17 years of age - about 1% of the best students with US citizenship have a chance to get a scholarship for their university studies

Given only in English, every year about 3.5 million students from all over the world take PSAT tests.

 What does the PSAT test consist of and how does it work?

Students can take digital PSAT and SAT tests on a wide range of devices, including their own laptops (Windows or MacOS), iPads, school-owned desktops and laptops and school-managed Chromebooks. Studnets will take the digital ST Suite using a custom-built digital testing application that they will download in advance of test day. Tests are taken at testing centres / schools.

The Digital PSAT consist of two parts:

• reading, writing and language skills
• mathematics

The whole PSAT test takes 2 hours and 14 minutes.

Part one - reading, writing and language skills

This part tests student’s reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.  Among others it tests the ability to find and correct errors in a text.  It's not about memorizing definitions. Try reading questions and/or language skills.

This is what this part tests! It checks your text comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Part two - mathematics

This part test basic areas needed in order to build on them later at a university. They include the basics of algebra, critical thinking and data analysis, and complex equations.

The test shows how a student think strategically, calculates correctly, solves problems quickly in various ways and looks for shortcuts leading to a solution. Try math questions.

 What will I find in the test results?

In addition to a score, the PSAT gives students a comprehensive overview of strengths and weaknesses, compared to global competition with their peers.  Detailed evaluation provides:

• your placement in the global ranking of students in your age group
• the level needed to prepare for the SAT and university studies
• your level of preparation in reading, language and math on a scale used in SAT tests
• results in specific areas such as expressing ideas, problem solving, data analysis or the basics of algebra
• recommendations on what to do and specific examples and instructions on how to improve in reading, language and mathematics
• a complete overview of correct and incorrect answers from the whole test

 Why should I take the PSAT test?

 I want to study at an American university. Which PSAT test is right for me?

If you are going to study in the USA, then you should start with the PSAT to be ready for the SAT

• PSAT / NMSQT are ideal to prepare for the SAT, results reveal strengths and weaknesses, and also suggest areas to focus on in preparation for the SAT
• The choice of the PSAT level depends on the age of the student. PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 are suitable to students 14 or 15 years of age, giving them more time to prepare for the SAT
• Fees for the PSAT are significantly lower than the fee for the SAT, superior to retaking the SAT
• Retaking the SAT is possible but generally leads to minor score improvements. Starting preparation early with PSAT produces significantly better scores.
• PSAT format and content are based on the SAT and in this way generally leads to better SAT results. You will know what to expect

 Where can you take the Digital PSAT in the Czech Republic?

CTM registers students to all three Digital PSAT tests: PSAT / NMSQT, PSAT 10 and PSAT 8/9. The place and dates for the tests are determined based on the number of registered students and availability of time and space possibilities by our partner schools.

 What are the fees for Digital PSAT exams?

The Digital PSAT fee is 2.000 CZK and is non-refundable. Should the student be allowed the so-called 'accommodation' for the exam, please get in touch with the CTM AP and PSAT administrator prior to your exam registration. In the case of special exam conditions ('accommodation), the exam fee is individually increased by an amount no less than 1.250 CZK and is individually determined depending on the kind of 'accommodation'.
