Description
Humans are fascinating. Why do we think and behave the way we do? What makes us similar in some ways and different in others? And, above all, how do these factors affect how we interact with the world around us?
In Psychology Basics, we will explore all of these questions and much more. Throughout the course, you will get to know some of the brilliant psychologists and their contributions to the field – like S. Freud, A. Bandura, E. Loftus, and I. P. Pavlov. It has been said that “psychology has a long past, but only a short history,” so we will trace the ideas that have shaped psychology as a discipline from the early beginnings to the current state of things. You will discover how humans develop from a psychological perspective across the lifespan, how language and memory work, and, at the end of the year, you will also obtain foundational knowledge of psychological disorders. You may expect a wide range of activities, real-life scenarios and tips for your everyday life: for example, how to recognise cognitive obstacles, cope with stress or learn new information effectively.
The course is divided into 5 topical modules, each lasting 6-8 weeks. The content is presented on the learning platform Buzz, whereby students engage with short texts, videos or interactive activities at their own pace, following a recommended timeline of 1-2 assignments per week. Assignments typically take the form of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), mini-essays and presentations. Moreover, each module contains a discussion-based assessment and a short MCQ-based test to assess students’ knowledge. Lastly, students are also invited to complete a collaborative project, having the option to choose between a theoretical and a practical task.

Feedback 2026
What did you enjoy about the course?
- As someone who's interested in psychology, especially in how people think, what influences our thinking, and psychological disorders, I really enjoyed learning about it from reliable sources. And I really liked the way the instructors treated us and communicated with us.
- I've enjoyed learning new things on the topic of psychology and taking it from the creative point of view by doing the presentations and essays.
- Learning new information, that seemed and still seems interesting and could be handy in everyday life. Also meeting really nice people.
- the course was well devided into the segments and well structured. No segment was too long or too short. Most of the lectures were interesting, and I think are something i might use later on in life.
- I enjoyed learning how psychological concepts relates to everyday life and human behavior. It was interesting to recognize some of the topics in myself and in people around me, which made the course feel more engaging.
- I really enjoyed the DBAs, which were not stressful at all. And the MTBI personality quizz was fun as well.

- I enjoyed learning new things about psychology. I also liked the people who I worked with.
- I really enjoyed the DbAs. It was fun to talk in English and answer different types of questions.
- I really enjoyed learning a lot of new and interesting things. It was great to discover more about myself as well, and it is always nice to know something extra.
- I enjoyed the breadth of the entire course, and I appreciated the opportunity to get to know new people. I also enjoyed the individual feedback we received on every lesson.
- I enjoyed the Dba meetings, because I got answers to my questions and I could listen to what others devise and from that I learned a lot. And also that I could study where I want like when I hat a free time when I waited for bus or when I was bored at home.
- I enjoyed how I could do the assessments at any time I wanted so I could do the assessment when I was in the mood for it without any pressure.
- I enjoyed the pace of the course, which was perfect. For instance, the break during Christmas and the choice of DBA slots. I generally enjoyed learning about different perspectives, how our memory works and different experiments.
- I definitely found at least a few enjoyable topics in every module. When things started to be useful in everyday life, that was the breaking point for me. I find the voluntariness of the whole course the most enjoyable, because then it is my desire to learn about the topic.
- I really enjoyed doing additional research on the topics. Taking notes was also fun and I enjoyed it.
- The opportunity to learn new things and meat new people. People who understand the topic. Things which matter in correlation to even everyday life.
- I enjoyed the overall topic of the course - psychology. Before starting this course, I had never thought I would enjoy my journey (even though it was sometimes bumpy) so much! The materials contained interesting facts and I also very appreciated the huge support from our instructors(:
- I enjoyed all the facts about psychological disorders and all the DbA's and I think learning about these disorders is very interesting and important.
- I really enjoyed this course because I learned a lot of new things. My favorite chapter was The Human Lifespan.
- It had different topics and aspects of psychology, which I found interesting.
- I really enjoyed that the tests at the end of each lessons were different. Sometimes we wrote texts and sometimes they were just quizzes. I also really liked working on the presentation.
- I really enjoyed all the chapters and fields of psychology that this course has covered, there were many real-life examples, pictures and experiences. It has certainly given me some self-reflection and set me on a different path to address my fears. And reassured me that psychology is the field I want to pursue.
- I enjoyed learning about the different techniques for learning and especially about the language learning.
How do you evaluate the course instructors?
- Definitely positively, without a doubt. Again, as someone who didn't have the best teachers in elementary school (lightly said), getting to grammar school felt like a breath of fresh air, and so did this. The instructors were helpful and the communication felt easy and not forced.
- I value them a lot and I am very thankful for them teaching me new things and being empathetic towards me even though my behavior wasn't always the best.
- They are nice. When I needed anything I knew that they were eager to help.
- Both instructors were really kind and helpful. When we had the discussion bases assignments, it was nice to speak with them and I think I learned something from them.
- Instrictors were very supportive and always explained everything clearly and answered everything when needed.
- Instructions were clear and simple. I haven't had any problems with comprehension.
- The course instructors were supportive, and approachable. They explained concepts clearly and provided helpful guidance throughout the course.
- Absolutely amazing. I had no problems with anyone.
- I am very happy about the instructors that we got. They were really nice and accommodating. When we needed help or ask a question, they were there for us with the answer. They also often reached out with emails, keeping us informed throughout the course even between assignments.
- The instructors were great. They were very nice, helpful, encouraging and supportive thoughout the whole course.
- Both of the instructors were fantastic. They were both very helpful and kind. When I needed something, they responded to me in a minute.
- The instructors were really good every time when I had some problem I just texted them and they helped me right away. Both of them did a great job.
- The instructors were lovely. They were so sweet, always explained everything and when I had a problem they understood it and tried to help.
- From all of my previous CTM courses, I liked this course's instructors the most. They motivated me and helped me whenever I was unsure about anything. In addition, they provided a lot of additional materials, which I found helpful. I loved how they led the course.
- I really appreciate the openness and availability of the course lectors. The two ladies went really deep when asked a question, but sometimes I would be happier if the grading came in sooner, but I also understand that we all have a lot of things to do. On the other side, the feedback was throughout and detailed.
- I think they were great. They were always nice and helpful.
- They were both great. The course was easy to comprehend, both instructors were patient and willing to explain any unclarities. My experience is pretty positive.
- The instructors were amazing! Very supportive, sympathetic, kind and passionate about psychology.
- I liked the instructors in this course, they are very helpful and understanding.
- The instructors were kind, understanding, considerate, and very fair.
- I think both were very clear with giving instructions and communicating. Because of the constant new mails, I for example, never forgot about the DbAs.
- Both instructors were very kind, patient, and helpful throughout the whole course. They always tried to explain everything as well as they could. I would like to thank them for all the effort and time they gave us.
- At first, I was a bit unsure to be honest, but after the first DbA, I found both Aneta and Eva really supportive and kind. Always answered all my questions and appreciated the work.
- If I had to evaluate them, I would give our instructors 9/10, just because the DbAs were sometimes too long.

Kurz se mi líbí, je zajímavý a je to úplně něco jiného než ve škole. Upřímně se těším na každý úkol nebo zadání. Jsemráda, že jsem objevila tento kurz. Do budoucna chci studovat nejspíše psychologii a určitě chci studovat v zahraničí. Díky tomuto kurzu se cítím sebevědoměji v angličtině a zároveň v již zmíněné psychologii.

The reason I decided to begin this course was to deepen my knowledge of psychology. Even though it was a Psychology BASICS course, one has to always start from scratch to then improve further. :) I’m very glad to say that this course met my expectations and completed my aims in studying psychology, showed me that there are more subfields than I was aware of, and finally, taught me lots of new stuff in the field I want to continue with in the future. What I really liked about our course instructor was her personal and individual approach toward us students.

I wish my lessons at school were as interesting as the course. I enjoyed every module and learned a lot of new things that I can now use in school and generally in life or as fun facts.

What students say about the course:
Student feedback on the course in terms of the…
…course content
- “I enjoyed the content itself because I vaguely knew about some of the topics, but this course helped build a foundation, especially since all the information is connected and relevant to each other.” (2024/25)
- “I really enjoyed the psychology course—much more than I expected. I’m glad I learned the basic concepts of psychology and how they apply to everyday life.” (2024/25)
- “I actually enjoyed everything in this course. I really liked all the assignments, all exams and especially our discussions. Even the presentations with the material were very nicely made, not boring at all. I have learned actually so much that I can't be specific right now, because I would have to include every single fact, theory and person I learned about. I loved it.” (2023/2024)
…own learning
- “I learned how to have video discussions, how to work with others, and also how to manage my time better.” (2024/25)
- “I have enjoyed this course so much even though I told myself that it is best to choose a different expertise. But that does not mean I did not learn anything useful for everyday life. It was my goal to get better education in this field, and I can imagine using this information in my hobbies.” (2024/2025)
- “I struggled with discipline in the past and this year was a kind of “free trial” of how it was going to be next year if I want to excel academically. I took up this course partially to have something that is purely my responsibility, and I believe I handled it pretty well.” (2024/2025)
- “I really liked the fact that we could all work at our own tempo. It proved helpful as I can struggle with deadlines so the fact that we had an entire week to complete one assignment was really useful.” (2023/2024)
…instructor
- “It was obvious that psychology is close to Aneta’s heart. The reports she wrote were encouraging while still being fair.” (2024/2025)
- She was always very understanding, and the feedback she gave was always helpful. Another amazing thing was that during the debates, whenever she explained the concepts further, they became much easier to understand. She was there for us throughout the whole process always kind, supportive, and always fair to everyone. (2024/2025)
- “I think that Ms. Zavadilova is an excellent instructor. Whenever I had time management problems or didn’t understand something, I knew I could turn to her for help with the given subject and the encouragement and praise after getting a good grade was always nice to see.” (2023/2024)
- “Maybe it will sound unoriginal, but I was extremely satisfied with the lecturer's approach. She complied when needed, she was very nice, and you could see that she wanted to pass on some knowledge to us.” (2023/2024)
